Ice Rink Launch - Leicester

The festive season means the Ice Rink is back in Leicester`s Jubilee Square and I was invited by  @visitleicester  ( On an Independent and unpaid basis) to attend the launch event. We enter the rink via the new larger (wheelchair accessible) entrance on Jubilee Square alongside the Wheel Of Light where a number of food stalls are available for those after a German Sausage or festive Mulled Wine after they`ve taken to the ice. Once inside we see the large rink and Team Icicles Professional Ice Skating Team preparing for the launch. New for this year is the Street Curling lane with its distinctive Curling Stones. Now to the main event and  @LCFC  Mascot Filbert Fox has arrived to officially open the rink for the season with a countdown from 10 he karate chops the tinsel ribbon declaring the rink officially open. On the rink we are then treated to a performance of several ice dances by Team Icicles who then stay on the ice to inspire the next generation of ice skaters as members of the public take to the ice for the first official session of skating in Leicester for 2025. You can book your Skating session online at iceskateleicester.co.uk .

HELIOS - By Luke Jerram

I got “sent to Coventry”, home of Coventry Market all kinds of everything something for everyone etc.  but as much as I’m sure the lady who sells rugs is very nice I’m not here for that lol. I visited the  @nationaltrustcharity  Charterhouse in Coventry to see artist  @lukejerram7742  's Helios installation on display in the properties beautiful landscaped gardens. We begin our look at the work with a wide shot showing bees collecting pollen and visitors young and old enjoying the gardens, further along the garden path and two visitors are challenging themselves to complete a maze made from bricks in the lawns. Getting closer now we see the Charterhouse itself with it`s mishmash of styles people are picnicking and enjoying the good weather with Helios looming behind. Now up close to the art work we find a glass model of the earth made in scale to the sun, giving a true perspective of the size of the sun itself. Looming high above the fiery giant really is the...

Jewry Wall - A Real Roman Experience

Mars, War & Peace

After successful displays of Museum Of The Moon and Gaia aka Earth, (See previous videos on this website), Artist  Luke Jerram brings Mars War & Peace to the Leicester Cathedral . The #MarsArtwork, Like his previous pieces uses high resolution images of the planets surface mapped in scale onto a inflated sphere giving the viewer a sense of the grandeur and scale of the real planet and a chance in this sacred space to contemplate our place in the universe. Leicester Cathedral has always lead the way in hosting artworks within it's impressive space, a beautiful space, recently refurbished and extended, that with it`s tall stone columns, roof held up by golden angels and own grandeur complements the other worldly artwork hanging inside. Mars War & Peace is at the Leicester Cathedral from 16th May - 8th June 2025.
