Desford Takes To The Stage - Scarecrow Festival 2025

The Desford Scarecrow Festival returned in 2025 with a theme of Desford Takes To The Stage, village residents took the theme and created a wide variety of interpretations from the well known plant from The Little Shop Of Horrors eating a passerby to the animal cast of the Sing series of films. The musical Wicked! was well represented as where the perennial favourites the minions. My highlights film begins with the famous plant before moving onto a Wicked! themed entry. Next up posters for a singing competition lead us onto a joint entry featuring various animal characters from the Sing films, moving on we see beetle-juice on the main street before its onto charlie and his great glass elevator. A selection of crocheted animals are on sale with the artist smiling behind before we move onto a game involving Pokemon balls and a song from Jigglypuff themselves. They famously said in War Of The Worlds the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, but still they come to Desf...

The Sculptural Gateway

The Sculptural Gateway on Belgrave Circle in Leicester is a piece of public art commemorating the 50th anniversary of Ugandan Asian migration to the city. Midlands-based artist Anuradha Patel was commissioned to create the sculpture marking the anniversary of the arrival into Leicester of thousands of Ugandan Asians fleeing the dictator Idi Amin. The work consists of a commemorative archway formed from intertwining strands of bright coloured powder coated metal featuring cut outs of animals flowers and other significant outlines, the design was chosen from a number of shortlisted designs by a panel which included Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, Chair of Belgrave Neighbourhood Co-operative Housing Association (BNCHA) Jaimini Bharakhada, BBC Radio Leicester broadcaster Rupal Rajani, along with the city council’s Anne Provan and Jo Jones, head of Leicester’s Museums and Arts service.

HELIOS - By Luke Jerram

I got “sent to Coventry”, home of Coventry Market all kinds of everything something for everyone etc.  but as much as I’m sure the lady who sells rugs is very nice I’m not here for that lol. I visited the  @nationaltrustcharity  Charterhouse in Coventry to see artist  @lukejerram7742  's Helios installation on display in the properties beautiful landscaped gardens. We begin our look at the work with a wide shot showing bees collecting pollen and visitors young and old enjoying the gardens, further along the garden path and two visitors are challenging themselves to complete a maze made from bricks in the lawns. Getting closer now we see the Charterhouse itself with it`s mishmash of styles people are picnicking and enjoying the good weather with Helios looming behind. Now up close to the art work we find a glass model of the earth made in scale to the sun, giving a true perspective of the size of the sun itself. Looming high above the fiery giant really is the...

GCR - Miniature Railway Spectacular

At The Miniature Railway Spectacular, The Portable Railway Club (PRC) arrived at the  @GCRofficial to lay some 1,300ft (400m) of temporary line in the goods yard at Quorn & Woodhouse Station Leicestershire. Featuring a great gathering of Steam and Diesel locomotives it made for a unique sight as they ran alongside their full sized counterparts, visitors to the #Rail200 event could get a ticket to ride their choice of locomotive at whichever scale they wished !. The PRC showcased their "Jubilee Track" with 7 1/4" and 5" gauge trains, including goods trains, sidings, and passing loops. My film begins with a green diesel passing by before we see a full sized engine leaving the station and a smaller engine picking up passengers in the foreground. Focusing on the miniature railway we see several trains making their way around the track followed by a diesel and another steam engine named red dragon. At a crossing the green diesel makes another appearance tooting...

Beach Postbox Topper - Newbold Verdon

There`s a seaside rendezvous going on in Newbold Verdon with beach themed postbox topper featuring a lady relaxing on the beach with a big bottle of Bubbly under a yellow parasol. The Newbold Knitseys have created a summertime scene with a lady enjoying a naughty bottle of bubbly fizz whilst sat on the beach with her yellow umbrella keeping the heat of the summer sun at bay.

Rail 200 - Inspiration Leicester

I visited Leicester Station to see the #Rail200 touring train "Inspiration" an exhibition on rails the train is travelling the  country attending various events to mark 200 years of passenger travel on UK railways. The film starts outside the station and it`s beautiful frontage facing Leicester`s London road, There`s a brief cameo from a  @LOROSHospice   #StompRoundLeicester Elephant before we`re on platform 3 with regular services passing through the station. Soon from under the London Road bridge comes a bright light and Inspiration appears pulled by two Mainline class 66 freight locomotives in striking red livery and with coaches stating Future, Past, Present and Inspiration each a key part of this unique travelling exhibition for Rail200, as inspiration passes by on its way to #GreatestGathering in Derby a regularly scheduled EMR service pulls into the station beside me.
