  Down by the riverside, there’s all sorts going on at Leicester’s riverside festival , in the heart of the city, a weekend bursting with music, food, arts, family fun, and vibrant waterside activity. Starting at Bede Park , where a Ferris wheel turns, giving riders a fun overview of the festival site, and along the mile-long straight. A right turn along the western boulevard past some balloons sees a busy street lined with traders and filled with visitors enjoying the atmosphere. We pass dancers heading to one of multiple performance stages and stalls offering GIANT SAUSAGES . Action on the water next as the ever-popular Dragon Boats line up to race under the bridges to the beat of a drum. In Castle Gardens , we meet performers from the House of Circus running a circus skills workshop for people of all ages. Nearby, a beautiful dress covered in flowers celebrates a bloom theme.   The #Leicester Open Streets series of events comes to Jarvis Street and teams up with Visit Leicester, Ride Leicester, Active Leicester, Leicester City Council and Street Art Collective Graffwerk for a Street Art Jam. The film opens on the arches of the old Great Central Railway where artists are creating various works, the camera then pans left to reveal the Wheels For All area where people of all ages and abilities are able to try various pedal powered forms of transport. Moving into the Street Art Jam itself under the bridge and a custom 80`s themed tandem bike by Cyclone Works is blasting out tunes to create a fun atmosphere. Artists in the back of shot are up and down ladders creating art on the walls as people watch on and join in the fun. With activities for all ages at the jam we see staff from Graffwerk running an spray can up cycling, painting workshop popular especially with the younger visitors. I was invited by Visit Leicester to the opening of Leicesters ever popular real Ice Rink. The Ice Rink, in a first for the UK ,features over 20,000 lights in the ice itself and an all new lighting rig suspended above the to create a magical festive environment for skaters. My film shows the rink ready for the skaters before the City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby officially cuts the ribbon and declares the Ice Rink open for the festive season in the city. The ice soon fills up with skaters of all ages enjoying the atmosphere of #ChristmasInLeicester . The Chinese New Year Procession sees a traditional Chinese dragon parade along the streets of Leicester taking in many city center landmarks. The dragon, traditional dragon dancers and drums accompanied by people holding boards featuring the animals of the chinese zodiac lead by the Tiger made their way from Jubilee Square along high street and through the old town marking the start of the New Year of the Water Tiger. Water Tiger was very apt as a light shower became heavier by the clock tower, regardless the procession continued round into the Leicester market area and into the Lanes old town area and past Leicester Cathedral which at the time of writing is undergoing a big restoration. We end back in Jubilee Square. The Chinese New Year events are organised by Cosmopolitan Arts and Amanda Leandro.

Now a firm highlight of the summer the city festival features performances from a number of touring groups and has a theme each year, 2019`s theme was "out of this world" to coincide with the Apollo 11 50th anniversary and featured aliens, Super Heroes and Robots among other things.
