Leicester Old Town Festival - Roman edition

In 2025 Leicesters Old Town Festival took on a Roman flavour with a Roman encampment on Jubilee Square featuring a life sized forum and exploring Leicester`s Roman past. Alongside the Romans the usual fun of the festival could be found at the @LeicesterCathedral Gardens with St George and his Dragon (inferno) FACT: St George was a solider in the Roman Army !. We start our day in a fiery way with Inferno the dragon breathing smoke and meeting visitors. Then from New Street we hear the unmistakable sound of bells as Leicester Morris arrive and perform a traditional dance in the Cathedral Gardens. After the excitement of the dance we move to the relative calm of the @LeicesterMuseums Guildhall where a Roman style mosaic is being created inspired by those soon to be displayed at @JewryWallRoman160AD (Re-Opening 26th July 2025). A brief march with a passing troop of Roman Soldiers brings us to Jubilee Square where Bill Brookman and Christine Parsons of www.billbrookman.co.uk welcom...

In the second of my films from Light Up Leicester I take a look at the various performances that accompanied the Installations around the city. We start with Aquanauts Adrift on Jubilee Square complementing the bubble like structures of Evanescent by Atelier Sisu, this performance piece by  @enteredem5879  features two Aquanauts on a mission to bring the wonders of the underwater world to the audience, with lots of fun bubbles and characters along for the ride. Next we arrive at the Clock Tower where  @NupurArtsDance  bring us the bight colours, dance and spectacle of the Holi Experience, ending with a blast of colour from bright powder thrown into the air. To the  @LeicesterMuseums  on New Walk next for the surreal but magical spectacle of FIERS À CHEVAL, Featuring imposing illuminated ivory horses, light and flamboyant. What follows is a magical experience along the New Walk led by performers from Compagnie Des Quidams, as they journey to The Circl...

STORM, By Vision Mechanics Leicester City Festival

Over the August bank holiday weekend a giant sea goddess roamed the streets of Leicester, Her name was STORM and she came with a message to protect our seas. STORM, Created by Vision Mechanics, is a ten meter tall goddess of the sea who emerges from the deep to celebrate our seas and encourage us to put the environment first. Two years in the making and made entirely from recycled materials, the giant puppet visited Leicester as part of the annual city festival in 2022. We find her resting in The Circle wrapped in fishing nets and man made waste before she is released by a group of people in yellow storm coats and serenaded by Taiko Drums beating traditional Japanese rhythms before she begins her tour of the city streets. She soon arrives at Town Hall Square where the Extreme Mountain Bike Show is taking place alongside other Ride Leicester attractions. Moving into the city center three swallows surround her and guide her to the Clock Tower area where she passes a fun fair. At the Cloc...

Leicester Castle Classic 2018

Pro cyclists in the annual Leicester Castle Classic race around the streets of Leicester once again on a route taking in the home of Leicester City FC (King Power stadium), the Leicester Castle over cobbles and around the Mile Straight the route makes up a 80km race in total. My film begins in the race village where the various teams and riders warm up before heading to the start line to begin the race, we then see the riders travel the course and negotiate the difficult cobbles around the castle where the bells of the church of St Mary de Castro ring out as the race passes. The race continues around the various twists and turns of the course before a dramatic collision on the final stretch which sees several riders injured, after expert treatment from the medical teams on hand and a slight delay the riders made their way to the podium where winner Gabriel Cullaigh collected his prize to the cheers of the gathered crowd.

Leicester Castle Classic 2017

The annual Castle Classic race in Leicester part of the national elite road series features top level riders taking in a 80km race around a 4km course that is famed for being fast and technical. The course lists Leicester Castle, The Mile Straight and King Power Stadium home of Leicester City among its route landmarks. The Start/Finish line in 2017 was at Bede park and as always the race was fast and exiting. A number of top UK teams where on show including Team Wiggins, Raleigh, NFTO and JLT Condor My short film aims to capture the atmosphere and speed of the race beginning in race HQ before heading to the start line and following the race as it speeds though the recently restored Leicester Castle cheered on by spectators and the sound of the bells of Church of St Mary de Castro. The film finishes back where it started at bede park and a champagne soaking on the winners podium with Connor Swift of Madison Genesis the winner of this years race.
