The Leicester Riverside Festival takes place annually along the mile straight of the River Soar featuring music,arts,crafts and activities both on and off the water, for the whole family it`s a great day out for everyone. With a toot of the whistle from the Abbey Pumping Stations traction engine, my film shows some of the many highlights from Sunday at the festival. Look for Bill Bailey`s band playing toe tapping jazz as they travel along the river, the beautiful sound of the sing for water choir and tales of the canals of old England with the Bonnet And Belt theater company among other attractions. There is even an appearance from a strange yellow character not dissimilar to a Muppet riding his tricycle into castle gardens.

The village of Newbold Verdon in Leicestershire held it`s first ever Scarecrow trail in May 2018 and I was tasked by its organizing committee with branding the event on a theme of "At The Movies". The posters had to be adaptable for an initial "in village" call for entries both in print and online via social media etc where a hashtag #NVScarecrowTrail was used for residents who wanted to share their progress etc. The "call for entries" poster was followed by a more general campaign aimed at the wider public encouraging visitors to the event.       The main event poster was distributed throughout the local area to encourage visitors and prominently featured the event hashtag #NVScarecrowTrail asking visitors to tweet their photos taken at the event.      The Call for Entries poster was displayed within the village to encourage residents and the community to register their interest in creating a scarecrow for the event, A QR code was in...

On the weekend of 26th and 27th May 2018 the village of Newbold Verdon received a dose of movie magic as the community got together to create the village’s first scarecrow trail on the theme of “Newbold Verdon at the Movies”. The event, which was the brainchild of Newbold resident Cerys Statham, tasked village residents to create scarecrows on a theme of “The Movies” and with almost every movie genre represented visitors where treated to a variety of creations from the Titanic on the cob shop through to the Tardis on Brascote lane and the entire cast of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory at the primary school the creations brought plenty of Hollywood movie magic to the Leicestershire village.

I visited a small area of woodland sandwiched between several busy roads and a motorway junction near to fosse park in Leicester. The area is not visible from the road and requires passing under a graffiti lined subway giving an interesting contrast between the urban and the natural. Approaching the area your hit by the fragrant scent of the flowers before a carpet of blue stretches out beneath the trees, dappled sunlight shines through the leaves illuminating patches of the blue flowers giving the area a magical glow and the look of a living painting. on my visit a small spec of red caught my eye, a small ladybird (ladybug) was making his way across the stem of one of the flowers I quickly switched lenses and he happily posed for me with his black and red spotted shell contrasting perfectly with the blue of the bluebell.

I visited the Great Central Railways Quorn and Woodhouse station where numerous vintage buses from across the decades and county had met for a Bus rally and heritage running day. Once a regular sight on the roads of #Leicester and also in the wider country many viewers will remember catching a "Midland Red" or a "Fox Cub" into Leicester City center and the destination board at the start of my film features many familiar stops. Also featured in this film are buses and coaches used by many for trips to the seaside in skegness or maybe to Wembley Stadium for a Leicester City Cup Final this event and the vehicles featured are sure to bring back fond memories for many. Look out for a bonus appearance by the GCR Rail car which could be described as a sort of "Bus on rails". Fun fact I found my old School Bus at the event !.

Captured in Slow Motion on an iphone SE, a Leicester based BMX skills display team perform various acrobatic arial tricks for gathered fans on ramps outside the King Power Stadium, home of Leicester City Football Club ahead of a Premier League fixture against Southampton on the day of filming.
