  The Old Town Festival returned to Leicester with something for everyone from across time. Turns out you don't need a TARDIS to travel through time; you can do it at the Leicester Old Town Festival. Starting our journey through time with an Anglo-Saxon ship , Brendan the Bold , which, although seaworthy, is on the dry land of Jubilee Square. On deck, we see a lady weaving a traditional fishing net. Next up, we see the ​⁠‪@ VikingsofMiddleEngland ‬ demonstrating the often brutal combat techniques used in the era (these people are trained professional re-enactors; please do not attempt to copy). Moving forward in time, we follow ‪@lordthomasgreysregimentoff6873‬ ( Lord Thomas Grey’s Regiment of Foot ) marching past BBC Radio Leicester and Leicestershire’s oldest building , the Guildhall , through to the ​⁠ Where, after being dismissed, things take a turn for the fantastical with Dragons! outside the ​⁠‪@kriiivisitorcenter1485‬. The festive season gets off to a spectacular start in Leicester with the annual light switch on. We start the evening at Jubilee Square where the giant wheel of light shines over the city sparkling with bright white light and patterns across it's spokes and circumference. Moving along High Street and outside Urban Outfitters is the Snow Queen in her snow globe. As we pass a beautifully decorated tree we find ourselves at the Town Hall Square fountain where, illuminated by bright colours, there`s Christmas magic already in the air, soon we see a gentle giant blue bear and baby exploring the space and giving the camera a sniff. Next up a very tall pink Christmas fairy has come down from the top of the tree to say hello. Join the Roman Soldiers as they take a march around the city of Leicester or as they know it Ratae Corieltauvorum they form together at the impressive cardboard forum in Jubilee square before marching in tandem past BBC Radio Leicester and their own encampment. Turning left they pass Leicesters oldest building The Guildhall before a right turn into the Cathedral Gardens where they meet St George and his dragon in a unique meeting of eras and legend that could only happen at Leicesters Old Town Festival. Up past the KRIII centre and even the Romans get briefly held up by that most modern of chariots a delivery bike !. Now at the clock tower and into the Highcross Shopping Center where they surprise a number of shoppers with a loud chant. Marching onward along the high street they pass the Ride Leicester Roman themed bike ride with bikes and riders decorated in a Roman theme. In the second of my films from Light Up Leicester I take a look at the various performances that accompanied the Installations around the city. We start with Aquanauts Adrift on Jubilee Square complementing the bubble like structures of Evanescent by Atelier Sisu, this performance piece by  @enteredem5879  features two Aquanauts on a mission to bring the wonders of the underwater world to the audience, with lots of fun bubbles and characters along for the ride. Next we arrive at the Clock Tower where  @NupurArtsDance  bring us the bight colours, dance and spectacle of the Holi Experience, ending with a blast of colour from bright powder thrown into the air. To the  @LeicesterMuseums  on New Walk next for the surreal but magical spectacle of FIERS À CHEVAL, Featuring imposing illuminated ivory horses, light and flamboyant. In my coverage of Leicester’s Bring The Paint Street Art Festival 2024 I present Jubilee Square transformed, by sponsors red bull, into a pop-up skate park, featuring live DJ sets and giving skateboarders the chance to show off their tricks on various ramps. Watch as skaters take on competitions and challenges, with BBC Radio Leicester as a backdrop. See them jump barriers, grind rails, and more, with just a few minor spills along the way! Please note, these skateboarders are highly skilled please, DO NOT, attempt the tricks seen in this video. Trained medical professionals were present throughout this organized event to ensure everyone's safety. Enjoy the action.

Experience the vibrant Chinese New Year celebrations in Leicester. Starting at De Montfort University with a traditional lion dance, followed by dragons created by Mr Cleaver’s Monsters gathering in the brightly yellow sunlit Jubilee Square. The parade then weaves it’s way along Leicester High Street, with dragons Cosmia, Cosmo, Brimstone and friends interacting with the crowds and passing the iconic clock tower before arriving at town hall square for the days culmination of a spectacular firework finale. A never-seen-before immersive installation, Compass has been created specially for its location in Leicester`s Jubilee Square. The Compass takes visitors on a journey of discovery and exploration into the world of British research. A spectacle of projection mapped animated images and featuring the voices and stories of researchers working in the UK who started their endeavors from all four corners of the globe. The Installation is part of the British Science Festival and is a partnership between De Montfort University and The British Science Association.

Join me on a ride of Leicester`s spectacular Wheel Of Light. Situated in the heart of the Leicesters Old Town in Jubilee Square the Wheel Of Light affords riders a spectacular 8 to 10 minute ride, with views of the city`s high street,  Cathedral and more as they travel up to 110 feet in one of 24 covered gondolas, each seating 6 people. Look out for a spectacular sunset and the studios of BBC Radio Leicester also featured in this video.
