STORM, By Vision Mechanics Leicester City Festival

Over the August bank holiday weekend a giant sea goddess roamed the streets of Leicester, Her name was STORM and she came with a message to protect our seas. STORM, Created by Vision Mechanics, is a ten meter tall goddess of the sea who emerges from the deep to celebrate our seas and encourage us to put the environment first. Two years in the making and made entirely from recycled materials, the giant puppet visited Leicester as part of the annual city festival in 2022. We find her resting in The Circle wrapped in fishing nets and man made waste before she is released by a group of people in yellow storm coats and serenaded by Taiko Drums beating traditional Japanese rhythms before she begins her tour of the city streets. She soon arrives at Town Hall Square where the Extreme Mountain Bike Show is taking place alongside other Ride Leicester attractions. Moving into the city center three swallows surround her and guide her to the Clock Tower area where she passes a fun fair. At the Cloc...

Make A Splash !, Cosby Yarnbomb 2022

Once again the Cosby Crafters have come together to create another fantastic Yarnbomb in the Leicestershire village of Cosby, This years theme "Make A Splash !". There's a giant octopus attached to the side of the barn and at the fish and chip shop someone has just been eaten by a shark !, No its not the plot of a new Hollywood summer blockbuster film but some clever crochet creations by the Cosby Crafters turning the village into a water themed wonderland with this years theme of "Make A Splash !". There's lots to see with seahorses playing trumpets and a whole shoal of fish swinging in the summer breeze. Children run from creation to creation singing "just keep swimming" and "look mum, a shark !". Moo-ving on we find Daisy the cow enjoying a cooling splash of milkshake and is that Mr Toad simply messing about on the river ? maybe ratty was right after all. Attached to some railings is a knitted underwater scene with some fish sporting s...

The film begins at the clock tower with Frock by Stopgap Dance Company, before a giant slug invades Jubilee Square ! in Seed By Piff-Paff Theater Company. The Liberty Angels come down from their high vantage points to walk among us on the high street before we end on an highly kinetic  environmental message from Highly Sprung`s Cast Away as the keeper o...
