RAF 100 - Desford In Bloom 2018

As Desford In Bloom coincided with the RAF100 celebration in 2018 and with the town playing a big part in the manufacture of various aircraft through the years, the village decided to theme its blooms and decorations accordingly. Two handmade wooden planes compliment the patriotic color planting and a YarnBomb created and organised by the Knit and natter group who meet in the village. Look out for knitted and toy planes having a dogfight under the trees and flowers planted to resemble the famous circular RAF design.

Verdonbury Five - Newbold Verdon

The Leicestershire village of Newbold Verdon held its annual "Verdonbury" event on the 7th July 2018 featuring Duck agility performers the K9 Quackers, Classic Cars, a Funfair, Wigston Brass Band, ferret racing and Falconry displays among the attractions. Now in its 5th year the event organised by Newbold Verdon Community Action Group is as popular as ever and was well attended, whether this was down to the added attraction of an England World Cup game being shown on a big screen in the beer tent is a discussion is for another time but is certainly the reason the Wigston band end this film with a rendition of the national anthem.

LOROS Forget Me Not Flower Appeal - Jubilee Square Leicester

During July 2018 Leicester Hospice LOROS brought a sea of colour to Jubilee Square in the city with limited edition wrought iron Forget Me Not flowers filling the grassed areas of the square. Available for purchase each flower symbolises the life of a loved one who is no longer with us. Due to a hot spell of weather the grass below the flowers was not its usual green but that didn`t distract from the spectacular display of light blue glossy flowers as they caught the suns rays. As I wondered through them the stories and memories of those people the flowers symbolised could be heard drifting across the square, making for a reflective but not sad atmosphere. The money raised from the Forget Me Not sales will go to fund the valuable work at LOROS, offering important support for local people and their loved ones who are living with terminal illness. for more information on the work of LOROS please visit www.loros.co.uk A special thanks to BBC Radio Leicester for allowing me to cap...
