Leicester Castle Classic 2018

Pro cyclists in the annual Leicester Castle Classic race around the streets of Leicester once again on a route taking in the home of Leicester City FC (King Power stadium), the Leicester Castle over cobbles and around the Mile Straight the route makes up a 80km race in total. My film begins in the race village where the various teams and riders warm up before heading to the start line to begin the race, we then see the riders travel the course and negotiate the difficult cobbles around the castle where the bells of the church of St Mary de Castro ring out as the race passes. The race continues around the various twists and turns of the course before a dramatic collision on the final stretch which sees several riders injured, after expert treatment from the medical teams on hand and a slight delay the riders made their way to the podium where winner Gabriel Cullaigh collected his prize to the cheers of the gathered crowd.

Leicester Castle Classic 2017

The annual Castle Classic race in Leicester part of the national elite road series features top level riders taking in a 80km race around a 4km course that is famed for being fast and technical. The course lists Leicester Castle, The Mile Straight and King Power Stadium home of Leicester City among its route landmarks. The Start/Finish line in 2017 was at Bede park and as always the race was fast and exiting. A number of top UK teams where on show including Team Wiggins, Raleigh, NFTO and JLT Condor My short film aims to capture the atmosphere and speed of the race beginning in race HQ before heading to the start line and following the race as it speeds though the recently restored Leicester Castle cheered on by spectators and the sound of the bells of Church of St Mary de Castro. The film finishes back where it started at bede park and a champagne soaking on the winners podium with Connor Swift of Madison Genesis the winner of this years race.

Leicester Castle Classic 2014

The Leicester Castle Classic is an 80km race over in a 4.1km route that includes a section on cobbles in Leicester Castle the mile straight along Western Boulevard and Leicester City FC`s King Power stadium. As of 2014 the race is now part of National Elite Road Series and is the penultimate race of the season. My film starts at Race HQ as Team Raleigh and others prepare before joining the race as it enters the cobbled section in Leicester castle though the Turret Gateway and later along the mile straight where we see race winner Jon Mould cross the finish line and on the podium.

The First Leicester Castle Classic

My film features cycling action from the first ever Leicester Castle Classic Professional Bike Race. The 20 lap race took place on 18th August 2013 around a route that took in some well known landmarks of the city of Leicester, From the start/finish line at Bede Park on Western Boulevard the route took the riders into old Leicester though the tight cobblestoned medieval gateways and lanes the area is known for, The route then looped back onto Western Boulevard before making a sharp left crossing the river soar and continuing down to the King Power football stadium home of Leicester City FC before retuning to Bede Park. The race was preceded by a 'Shoppers and Choppers' race and a 'Corporate challenge' both open to the general public. Photos follow below
