Built to Burn. Designed to Heal. Sanctuary, A Memorial for the Nation is (was) an artwork situated in the town of Bedworth and created by American artist David Best. The piece is designed to act as a temporary structure and memorial to those lost during the last few years, the intricate wooden structure is created in collaboration with the local community and offers opportunities to develop carpentry skills and more. Artist David Best is known for his 'Temples' at Burning Man Festival in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, his vision is for the work is for it to be a healing space for everyone to come together after a challenging two years. The Moon Convoy rolls into Leicester as part of the Tour De Moon festival bringing with it a fully sustainable armada of vehicles a giant squid named Archie and a large Red telephone to "talk to the moon" among other interactive experiences. The event hopes that by creating a physical space for people to come together as a community, new ideas will be born. The Tour De Moon festival invites you to ask why can’t we imagine a new way of thinking/dreaming/doing?. My film features a look at the Moon Convoy part of the festival and starts with look at the nine meter long archie the squid before moving on to the moon tunnel and giant phone. Originally named by a Mr David Edwards (a City Engineer) as a way to wish good luck to Leicester City in a 1969 FA Cup game at the historic stadium, The Wembley Road forms part of a sporting themed naming scheme for the then newly built Braunstone Frith Industrial Estate. Leicester City lost the final in 1969 but 50+ years later in 2021 a historic win for the team gave an opportunity to dedicate the sign to the FA Cup win it was intended to mark. In 2022 the sign was unveiled by club ambassador Alan Birchenall and Mr David Edwards.

  On 7th May a selection of vintage busses from various decades made their way to Quorn And Woodhouse Station on the Great Central Railway to take part in the Bus And Train Spectacular. With busses running a timetable of trips between stations and moving around the yard there was lots going on throughout the day with lots of highly polished and well kept vehicles to see all lined up. My film hopes to give an idea of the sights and sounds of the event and follows several of the buses around the site. The event is a joint collaboration of the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust and The Great Central Railway.

Teams gathered at Leicester Rowing Club for a Regatta full of on water action. My film starts in the boat house before moving to the towpath to see some of the action on the water itself cheered on by the gathered crowds.

The North Leicester MG Club met for a day run through the lanes of East Leicestershire celebrating the scrapping of road tax on classic vehicles and raising money for local charity the Rainbows Hospice For Children and Young People in Loughborough. I caught up with them at the end of the run in the Gates Garden Centre car park at Cold Overton. The classic cars all maintained to a gleaming finish by their owners looked spectacular in a variety of colours lined up in the parking bays. There where more than just MG cars too with a number of Morris Minors and even a classic white Jaguar on show.

After two years the Cicle Classic, Oakham - Melton cycle race returned to the farm tracks and dusty roads of Leicestershire and Rutland. My film starts in Oakham where we see the riders preparing for the race before speeding out of the town and onto the narrow and tight route reminiscent of european classics such as the Paris - Roubaix.

Join us on a tour of the Ice House built in 1843 in Bouskell Park Blaby. Once the site of a medieval village and later parkland for Blaby Hall, a Manor House built in 1837. The Ice House itself is now a Grade II Listed Building and was restored by the 'Buried Bouskell' project In December 2019, when £156,000 was awarded to Blaby District Council by The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of a £173,000 project which will help preserve its structure and heritage for the future. A look at the newly unveiled (at time of publication) Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Memorial Statue. Seen pre-match at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City hosted PSV Eindhoven in the Europa Conference League, this was many fans first look at the memorial to a great and generous man. The bronze statue stands with thumbs up and is situated outside the stadium on a blue plinth, forming a lasting reminder of Khun Vichai`s legacy at both the football club and the wider city of Leicester. Known as "The Boss" and "The Possible Man" Khun Vichai and Srivaddhanaprabha family created, and continue to create, in Vichai`s memory, a culture of togetherness and support between players, fans, owners and the community that is the envy of many teams around the world.

Leicester was transformed for 4 evenings (3rd - 6th March 2022) as Light Up Leicester returned to the City streets bigger and better than ever with a number of artworks each with their own style placed around the city.  Starting in the Cities Cultural Quarter we see the giant figures of "Fantastic Planet" by Parer Studio towering over visitors in Orton Square, alongside and next up in St George`s Churchyard are the Alien Pods of "The Mycelium Network" by LuminARTi pulsing and communicating with each other in the trees. Moving onto Humberstone Gate four "trees" have taken root and change colour to the sound of chimes in "Luminosi Trees" by Sound Intervention. To Leicester`s Clock Tower now which has been transformed by Studio Vertigo`s "Our Beating Heart", into a scene that wouldn't look out of place on BBC`s Strictly Come Dancing with two glittering revolving heart shaped mirror balls casting ballroom style points of light onto ...
