At the centre of this festive gathering stands a funny bunny, adorned with ribbons and eggs, serving as the focal point of the scene. Mandarin Duck and Other Birds

I visited Thornton Reservoir in the National Forest in Leicestershire in hope of sighting a rare Mandarin Duck which had been seen in the area. The Mandarin Duck is held in high regard in Chinese culture as they, unlike other ducks, are believed to be lifelong couples, as a result they are regularly featured in Chinese art. Mandarin ducks are also known as "Wedding Ducks" in Korean culture and Lovebirds/Happily Married Couples in Japanese culture. At the reservoir a veritable menagerie of waterfowl could be observed with Swans, Mallards and a very noisy Chinese Goose making himself known to most of Leicestershire with his loud honking, but as yet no sign of the star of the show. Walking around the reservoir and keeping our eyes peeled for the elusive duck, we were told by some passing binocular yielding walkers that they had witnessed our colorful friend standing on a log in a wooded area just off the shoreline path, turning a corner the unmistakable brightly patterned duck ...

Signs of Spring at St Lukes Newton Harcourt

Signs of spring appear on a sunny day in February as Snowdrops, Daffodils and Crocus fill the church grounds of St Luke`s in the village of Newton Harcourt Leicestershire. Come with me through a white gate and enter a space often associated with loss but instead bursting with life in all its forms as springtime brings color and light.

Starling Murmuration

I traveled to the village of Woodford just across the border in Northamptonshire to witness one of natures must see events a Starling Murmuration. Thousands of the tiny birds created a stunning sight as they flocked together above the village creating a mass that looked like one large flowing, living cloud reminiscent of a shoal of fish in the sea their movements where hypnotic in their fluidity. Look out for red kites on the edges of the flock circling like sharks ready to grab any unfortunate starling who gets separated from the mass. More images follow

Bluebell Wood Fosse Park

Hidden close to a busy motorway junction near Fosse Park in Leicester is a small woodland area that turns a bright shade of blue every May as a carpet of bluebells covers the ground. Bee`s, butterfly and if your lucky the occasional rabbit can be seen among the flowers as they sway in the wind. My short video captures the beautiful scene as the sunlight filters through the trees giving the scene an almost fairy tale like quality. images follow

Springtime Flowers

A warm sunny Sunday in Springtime bursts into a riot of colour as flowers finally get a chance to put on a display after unseasonably cold weather griped the UK during the start of the year. In my short film the Daffodils and Tulips shine as they look up to a blue cloudless sky soaking up the sunlight that has been hidden for so long behind stormy snow clouds, The Bees and a Bombyliidae or Bee fly hovers like a humming bird using his long needle like mouth to drink the pollen from the flowers as the temperature rises, could spring finally be on its way ?.

Springtime Snow At The Snowdon Mountain Railway

My Video features the unique scenes on The Snowdon Mountain Railway yesterday after heavy springtime snowfall had caused the initial closure of the line. The Railway`s staff have worked hard to cut through the huge snowdrifts and get the line operational again leaving deep snow lined corridors for the trains to pass through and creating spectacular scenes rare to Springtime in the UK.

Great Spotted Woodpecker

A Greater Spotted Woodpecker visits our bird feeder one snowy Sunday. The Great Spotted Woodpecker (or Greater Spotted Woodpecker) despite being quite a common bird in number rarely visits garden bird feeders in the UK.

Menphys Open Gardens 2011

Poster design for Menphys Open Gardens 2011, Designed to promote an open garden event hosted by Her Grace, The Dowager Duchess of Rutland for the Leicester based charity menphys at Belvoir Lodge. The design incorporates the event information into the middle of a pair of ornate iron garden gates which have been opened to invite the viewer into both the poster & the garden. The typeface is of a bold style reminiscent of classic movie posters and is fully contained within the rectangular shape of the gate opening making for a design where the text becomes the most prominent feature of the piece. The poster also continues the theme of Ladybirds and Birds as featured on the previous poster for the oadby and wigston charity show, How many can you spot ?
