TIPPING POINT - By Luke Jerram

I visited Corby Hazel and Thoroughsale woods to witness artist @lukejerram7742 's emotive piece #TippingPoint. The work created to simulate a forest fire raging uses smoke lights and and immersive soundtrack to bring the horrors of this natural disaster to life for visitors. In collaboration with award winning composers Dan Jones and Simon Birch the artwork includes an immersive soundtrack which includes audio of trees burning, chainsaws whirring, animals running and birds flying away, to bring the reality of deforestation to life. As I explore the explore the piece we also hear peoples recorded experiences of real forest fires. We see the strange juxtaposition of visitors taking photos with their phones whilst the forest seemingly burns around them !. Tipping Point was commissioned by University of Bristol Botanic Garden and the charity Make My Money Matter.

HELIOS - By Luke Jerram

I got “sent to Coventry”, home of Coventry Market all kinds of everything something for everyone etc.  but as much as I’m sure the lady who sells rugs is very nice I’m not here for that lol. I visited the  @nationaltrustcharity  Charterhouse in Coventry to see artist  @lukejerram7742  's Helios installation on display in the properties beautiful landscaped gardens. We begin our look at the work with a wide shot showing bees collecting pollen and visitors young and old enjoying the gardens, further along the garden path and two visitors are challenging themselves to complete a maze made from bricks in the lawns. Getting closer now we see the Charterhouse itself with it`s mishmash of styles people are picnicking and enjoying the good weather with Helios looming behind. Now up close to the art work we find a glass model of the earth made in scale to the sun, giving a true perspective of the size of the sun itself. Looming high above the fiery giant really is th...

Mars, War & Peace - Luke Jerram

After successful displays of Museum Of The Moon and Gaia aka Earth, (See previous videos on this website), Artist  Luke Jerram brings Mars War & Peace to the Leicester Cathedral . The #MarsArtwork, Like his previous pieces uses high resolution images of the planets surface mapped in scale onto a inflated sphere giving the viewer a sense of the grandeur and scale of the real planet and a chance in this sacred space to contemplate our place in the universe. Leicester Cathedral has always lead the way in hosting artworks within it's impressive space, a beautiful space, recently refurbished and extended, that with it`s tall stone columns, roof held up by golden angels and own grandeur complements the other worldly artwork hanging inside. Mars War & Peace is at the Leicester Cathedral from 16th May - 8th June 2025.

Gaia by Luke Jerram, Leicester Cathedral

Whats is "Gaia" ?, In Greek Mythology Gaia is the personification of the Earth.  The artist Luke Jerram returns to Leicester Cathedral in 2021 with Gaia, A touring artwork measuring seven metres in diameter and created from detailed NASA imagery of the planets surface, Gaia provides the opportunity to see our planet earth in three dimensions. The installation aims to create a sense of the Overview Effect, which was first described by author Frank White in 1987. In my film I try to capture the awe inspiring sight of the installation as it fills the cathedral gently rotating above visitors heads and surrounded by the centuries old cathedral with it columns and arches. At the time of exhibition the world is in a unprecedented position with various new "challenges" faced globally day to day,  Luke's work gives us a chance to reflect on this and evaluate our place in the universe and how we want to live our lives.

Drumming For The Moon - With Cassia Tree At Leicester Cathedral

I visited Leicester Cathedral for a performance of Drumming For The Moon by Cassia Tree a 4 piece band performing intricate drumming rhythms from West Africa, the performance took place in a darkened cathedral lit only by Luke Jerram's #MuseumOfTheMoon on display above the performers and watching crowd. The performance began with a gong before building to a infectious lively rhythm and percussion piece that had toes tapping and many of the assembled crowd dancing in the vast space of the cathedral. .

Museum Of The Moon at Leicester Cathedral

I took a visit to see artist Luke Jerram`s Museum Of the Moon as it was suspended inside Leicester Cathedral. The piece is the focus of events by the University Of Leicester to mark British Science Week 2018 and is a joint project between the Artist, University and the Cathedral. Measuring 7 meters in diameter, MOTM features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the earths nearest neighbor and is lit from inside. At a scale of 1:500,000, each centimeter of the spherical sculpture represents 5 km of the moon’s surface. After the visit to Leicester the work will travel to the Commonwealth Games in Australia. for further information Artist:  www.lukejerram.com Leicester Cathedral: www.leicestercathedral.org University Of Leicester Science Week: https://le.ac.uk/science-week
